← How a large business responds to external factors

Employment relations and societal expectations

Unions, industrial action, employer associations, and the expectations above the law.

What to have ready

  • One method of industrial action, named precisely, and its effect on output.
  • One lawful management response, and why good faith rules out the aggressive option.
  • One reason a business joins an employer association, and one community benefit.
  • One societal expectation the business meets beyond the law, and what failing it would cost.

Confusing consultation with negotiation

Consulting employees WITH them when drafting an employment agreement (a practice tied to tikanga in several papers) is not the same as negotiating pay rates or conditions from scratch — consultation means genuinely seeking and considering their input before finalising terms already largely set by the business, building trust and buy-in rather than reopening every term.

Practice for this standard covers the whole topic — flashcards and quiz.
