Qualitative characteristics, tied to the user (every paper)

Never define a characteristic and leave it. Say what it lets THIS user do.
CharacteristicWhat it meansWhat it does for the user
RelevanceCapable of changing a decisionPetra can judge whether to hold or sell
Faithful representationComplete, neutral, free from errorThe figures depict what actually happened
ComparabilityLike-for-like across years and entitiesThis year can be set against last, and against rivals
VerifiabilityIndependent observers reach the same resultThe audited numbers can be trusted
TimelinessAvailable soon enough to act onOld information cannot inform today's decision
UnderstandabilityClear, classified, no needless complexityA non-accountant user can read it

Materiality sits INSIDE relevance and is entity-specific. Saying "materiality is a qualitative characteristic in its own right" loses the mark.
