Creating a visual and verbal text (internal)
Internal 3 credits Visual language Verbal language Design Purpose & audience IntegrationAS 91103, 3 credits. A visual AND verbal text that must be ORIGINAL IN CONSTRUCTION and STAND ALONE — not a slide within an oral presentation. Two parallel criteria again: ideas/structure, and language features for effect.
1 Reading the notation
Original in construction, and must STAND ALONE — not a component within a speech.📖 Terms the schedule grades you on
4 terms- Construction (note 3)
- Original overall; components may be original, adapted, or from other sources.
- Standing (note 5)
- Expected to stand alone, not as a component within an oral presentation.
- Text types (note 4)
- Digital/multi-media presentations; graphic/illustrated texts; live/recorded dramatic performances.
- Ideas/structure (Excellence)
- Compelling OR persuasive — narrower wording than 91101's four-option list.
2 Visual and verbal working together
The reading path is the visual equivalent of paragraph order.Check each element
- Name the purpose and audience in one sentence each.
- For every visual element: what idea does it carry? Remove it — what is lost?
- For every word: could an image do this better? If yes, use the image.
- Trace the reading path — first, second, last — and check it matches the argument.
3 From combination to integration
Mutual change in meaning is the test, not just coexistence on the page. ✕A slide deck submitted alongside a speech
A visual/verbal text designed as a supporting slide for an oral presentation does not meet the "stand alone" requirement (note 5). The text must work as its own complete piece, independent of any accompanying speech.4 Ideas this standard can carry
The standard's own named categories (note 6) — the same list as the oral and portfolio standards.Ideas may include
- Information, opinions, recounted experiences or events.
- Observations, arguments, interpretations.
- Narrative, thoughts, feelings.
Practice
Recall it first, then use it — testing yourself builds the memory, where rereading the notes above only feels easier.
Recall and application shuffled together — you have to work out what each item wants before you can answer it, which is the part the exam actually tests. Both kinds feed the same spacing schedule, so anything you miss comes back sooner.
Say the answer out loud before flipping — that attempt is where the learning happens, even when you get it wrong.
Exam-style only. Instant feedback, shuffled each attempt, best score saved on this device.
