← Applying business knowledge to a critical problem

Ineffective leadership and growth-strategy risk

Two problem types that do not fit the "external factor" mould — they come from decisions made INSIDE the business.

Tracing the chain the papers want

  • Ineffective leadership: unclear direction or poor communication → low morale/high turnover → inconsistent delivery → complaints or poor survey results → lost customers.
  • A rushed or under-researched growth strategy: entering unfamiliar territory (a new region, a new market) without local knowledge → mistakes that cost money and reputation → economic sustainability threatened even while sales elsewhere are healthy.
  • For BOTH, the fix is the same shape as any other solution: name the specific gap (training, planning, local research), and explain the mechanism by which it closes it.

Why these still fit the loop

A leadership or growth-strategy problem is not "external" like a competitor or a law change, but the marking schedule asks for exactly the same structure: identify the problem and its impact, then two solutions, explained and justified. Do not treat it as a different question type.

Fixes matched to each internal cause

  • Ineffective leadership: clearer communication channels, defined decision protocols, leadership training.
  • Rushed growth: pilot the expansion at smaller scale first, commission local market research before committing capital.

Practice for this standard covers the whole topic — flashcards and quiz.
