Applying a concept to the resources (every paper)
Sustainability, perspectives, change, interaction — use NZQA's printed wording. Exam-style Sustainability after a major urban redevelopment How have social, economic and environmental sustainability been affected? ECONOMIC: new jobs, investment and a wider rates base — but rising rents and commercial costs, and dependence on continued visitor numbers. SOCIAL: better transport, facilities and housing stock — but displacement of long-term residents as prices rise, and loss of the previous community fabric. ENVIRONMENTAL: contaminated land remediated and new parkland created — but more impermeable surface, higher traffic, and construction emissions. JUDGEMENT: sustainability improved on the economic and environmental dimensions, but social sustainability weakened for existing residents — so the redevelopment redistributed who benefits. ✓ All three dimensions, both directions in each, then a judgement about which group gains. Naming the redistribution is the top-band move.| Concept commonly applied | What to cover |
|---|---|
| Sustainability | Social, economic AND environmental — each direction, both benefits and costs |
| Perspective | Name the group, their value, and their resulting position on the change |
| Interaction | The two-way loop: people affect the environment, the changed environment affects people back |
| Location/accessibility | The compounding advantage → investment → more accessibility loop, over time |
A fast check before applying a concept
- Have I used the concept's own NZQA wording, not a loose paraphrase?
- Have I applied it to named evidence from THIS resource booklet, not a generic textbook example?
