This is a single holistic 0–8 mark, not a series of separate parts to tick off — so the shape of the whole essay matters as much as any one sentence in it.
A structure that hits every band descriptor
Opening: name the process and the environment explicitly, in one sentence — the marker should not have to infer either.
Elements: name the process's components in the order they act, before analysing any of them individually.
Links (body paragraphs): one paragraph per link between two elements, each with its own named mechanism and its own piece of case study evidence.
Variation: at least one explicit spatial comparison (two named places) or temporal comparison (two named time periods), with a figure for each.
Impacts: both directions (positive and negative), naming who gains and who loses from the same mechanism.
Conclusion: draw the links together into one insight — not a summary of what was said, but a genuine "because of X and Y, therefore Z" statement that could not have been written without the earlier paragraphs.
Exam-style Turning a description into an insightful conclusion An essay has separately described (1) improved road access raising visitor numbers to a lakeside town, and (2) rising accommodation demand displacing lower-income residents. What turns this into an Excellence-level conclusion? Name the link explicitly: improved access is the ROOT CAUSE of both the visitor increase and, several steps later, the displacement. State the insight: the same infrastructure decision that grew the local economy is what is now pricing out the workers that economy depends on. Close on the redistribution: the process has not simply "helped" or "harmed" the town, it has shifted benefit toward property owners and operators and cost toward renters — naming both groups by name. ✓ A conclusion that traces cause through multiple linked steps to a single redistributive insight scores Excellence; a conclusion that just restates the two impacts side by side stays at Merit. ✕
A conclusion that repeats the introduction is not insight
Restating "tourism has both positive and negative impacts on X" at the end of the essay is exactly what the introduction already said. An Excellence conclusion must draw a NEW connection the reader could only make after reading the linked evidence in the body — usually by tracing one element's effect through two or more later steps to somewhere unexpected.

Is there at least one named place or figure in every body paragraph, not clustered in one?
Does the conclusion say something the introduction could not have said?

Analyse
Break the process into its elements and explain the mechanism connecting them — not just describe what happens.
Analyse in detail
The same, with named places, figures, and at least one explicit link traced through more than one step.
Analyse comprehensively, with insight
Multiple links traced, spatial AND/OR temporal variation synthesised, and a conclusion that draws a new connection the evidence alone does not state outright.
