Reading the notation
The standard's own grading language, precisely — the difference between "critically", "convincingly", and "perceptively" is the whole mark ladder.📖 Terms the schedule grades you on
5 termsCover the right column and check you can say what each one means, in the standard's own wording.
- Respond critically
- Make evaluative interpretations and judgements about the text — not summarise or describe it.
- Significant
- How an aspect or interpretation of the text creates MEANING — not just that it is present.
- Supported by evidence
- Specific and relevant quotations from, or references to, the text backing your interpretation.
- Convincingly
- Merit's word: discerning and informed interpretations — the aspects chosen are the ones actually doing the work, explained specifically rather than generally.
- Perceptively
- Excellence's word: reading against the surface — a tension, an implication, or a way form and content pull in the same direction.
