Preparing your scene bank in advance

Frame-by-frame preparation of a few key scenes covers most of what the eight questions ask.

What to prepare for each of your 2-3 chosen scenes

  • The exact shots, angles and camera movements used, in order.
  • The lighting and colour choices, and what they signal.
  • The sound — diegetic and non-diegetic — and its timing.
  • The idea or character insight the scene as a whole serves.

Reading your notes silently is a weaker rehearsal than describing a prepared scene out loud from memory, timed against how long the actual exam response would take. Under exam pressure, being able to produce the precise technique description fluently — without re-reading notes — is what separates a scene bank that is genuinely ready from one that only looks ready on paper.
