← Summarising the development of a digital outcome

The current (2025) task shape, and what each part has to contain

Prepare all three before the assessment — it is your own project, so nothing here is a surprise.

What to have written and rehearsed

  • DESCRIBE: purpose, key features, target audience, the software used — plus WHO you tested/trialled with and any subject matter expert you consulted, and why each was relevant.
  • REQUIREMENT 1 (aesthetics/functionality/usability): what it was, how the outcome addressed it, and what you had to CONSIDER while developing to meet it.
  • REQUIREMENT 2 (cultural/ethical/sustainability/future-proofing): what it was, and the TRADE-OFF you balanced it against — what mattered most, and why.
  • REFLECT: a challenge you faced meeting a requirement, how you addressed it, and how effective that fix actually was — PLUS a decision you made against advice, and how the outcome (and the end user) would differ if you had followed it.
  • The three images: the finished outcome, a digital component inside the authoring software, and the development process — chosen to evidence exactly these points.
Exam-style A cultural/ethical/sustainability/future-proofing trade-off, written to score What requirement did you choose, and how did you balance the trade-off? REQUIREMENT: future-proofing — the outcome (a booking system for a small sports club) needed to keep working after I left, run by volunteers with no coding background. THE TRADE-OFF: a fully custom database would have been more flexible, but harder for a non-technical volunteer to maintain; a template tool was more limited but came with a visual editor anyone could use. THE DECISION: I chose the template tool, accepting less customisation in exchange for real maintainability — and documented the five most likely future changes (new sport, new season, price change) as step-by-step instructions. WHY THIS MATTERED MOST: an outcome no one can maintain stops being used within a season, so long-term usability outweighed short-term polish here. EVIDENCE: image 3 shows the documented instructions alongside the editor. ✓ Name the trade-off explicitly, say which side you chose and why, then show the evidence. That explicit weighing is what "comprehensive" means in the descriptor.

Practice for this standard covers the whole topic — flashcards and quiz.
