2 Choosing a technology with real chemistry in it
The chemistry has to genuinely determine how and why the technology developed.What the account needs
- Balanced equations where relevant.
- The structures or bonding involved.
- The reaction type and any energy changes.
- The properties that follow from the structure.
3 Building the report

- STRUCTURE: what the substance is, its bonding and structure.
- PROPERTY: what that structure makes it do — conductivity, reactivity, stability, solubility.
- APPLICATION: how the technology exploits that property.
- DEVELOPMENT: what this made possible that was not possible before, and what still limits it.
4 Evaluating the chemistry's influence
A genuine judgement about how much the chemistry drove the technology — constraints included. ✕More links instead of an evaluation
Adding a fourth and fifth well-explained link is still Merit-level work if none of them steps back to judge the OVERALL extent of the chemistry's influence. Excellence needs a verdict: how much did the chemistry itself shape this technology's path, and where has it been a limiting factor?Practice
